Florene Bush, 94, thought she’d never see her wedding band again after she lost it while gardening in the 1970s, WTVF reported.
But almost 50 years later, Bush, of Leoma, Tennessee, was reunited with the piece of jewelry.
It all goes back to a recent conversation she was having about the missing ring in her nursing home, according to WTVF. Wesley White, who was visiting his mother in the facility at the time, overheard Bush and thought he might be able to help using his metal detector.
“I’m retired so I go every chance I get,” he told WTVF. “That’s normally what I hunt for is coins.”
White and his friend Jeff Howell set out in search of the ring in the yard where Bush have lost it.
About 90 minutes into their search, they found it five inches below the surface, according to WTVF. The ring was in pristine condition and hadn’t been damaged — even after spending half a century underground.
