I have rated the Bounty Hunter TK4 Tracker IV as one of the better metal detectors for beginners to get introduced to the world of metal detecting and treasure hunting. I am a little conflicted though as I feel that both the Garrett ACE 150 and the Fisher F2 metal detectors are better overall machines for someone who might want to get started with metal detecting. So you are probably wondering why I would rate the TK4 Tracker in first place?
The answer comes down to price. This metal detector is the cheapest metal detector that you are likely to find that will actually find things in the ground. It is by no means perfect, but for under $100, you can get a really good feel for if you are enjoying metal detecting and want to upgrade to something more substantial, or if metal detecting isn’t for you – in which case you have only spent $100.
What does the Bounty Hunter TK4 Tracker Look Like?
The TK4 is actually a pretty sleek looking machine. It is all black and has a really nice adjustable height design that makes it simple to use for both the tall and short alike. Bounty Hunter have done a great job when it comes to the ergonomics of this model of detector. I have only used it once, but I found it really easy to handle and it was light enough that I didn’t feel tired despite many hours of usage.
The Bounty Hunter TK4 is very user friendly, and it offers effective performance in a variety of conditions. It also eliminates the need for ground balancing with its built-in automatic ground trac feature.
When I went and checked the TK4 out on Amazon I was actually surprised to see that it got such a good rating and that it had so many people review it. It looks like many people agree with me that you really can’t go past trialing a metal detector for under $100.
When I was reading through the comments on Amazon, one thing that many people commented about was how this was a great metal detector to buy their children who were interested in getting setup with their own metal detector. Again, the main reason for is the price being so affordable.
Amazon Rating: 4.4 out of 5 stars (350+ reviews)

Using the Bounty Hunter TK4 Tracker
The Bounty Hunter TK4 Tracker IV Metal Detector is able to detect items in a fairly large range of ground conditions. This includes saltwater beaches, to iron rich soil that normally throws up a lot of false positives. This metal detector is actually quite user friendly and is able to maintain it’s sensitivity settings no matter the different setup you decide to use.
The Bounty Hunter TK4 requires two 9V batteries to function.
When using the TK4 you should make note of the 2 built-in modes that are available through the use of a toggle switch.
- Motion All-Metal mode – A single tone for all types of metal.
- Discrimination mode – Eliminates iron and other low value metals.
Understanding how to use these two settings will make your time out treasure hunting so much more simple, and effective.
Bounty Hunter TK4 Use Cases
While I don’t personally use the Bounty Hunter TK4 Tracker, I do know that it is ideal for coin shooting, relic hunting, finding jewelry and locating other types of lost property.
Final Verdict – This is a good overall detector, but it isn’t the best. If you are looking for a metal detector that is really cheap and simple to use then you should buy this. If you think you might enjoy metal detecting and want to get a bit more usage out of your detector, then perhaps look at one of the other metal detectors in my best metal detector list.
The other reason I would recommend this product is if your kids want to get into metal detecting, but you don’t want to spend a great deal of money. It really does make a great kids birthday or Christmas present.
